In 2019, Prescott City Council member Cathey Rusing ran for office with the campaign slogan, “For the Love of Prescott.” It resonated with voters, along with her platform: Saving the Granite Dells, moderate growth, managing traffic, a smart water policy, and retaining our hometown feel and quality of life.
This campaign was so successful, Cathey garnered the most votes ever cast for a City Council candidate. Over 11,000 voters shared her vision.
Fast forward to this election cycle. It was a shock to see the color newspaper ad on July 25th for Greg Mengarelli, co-opting the Rusing campaign slogan, “For the Love of Prescott.” What happened to his original, problematic, “True to our Heritage” slogan anyway? Far from following the adage that “Imitation is the greatest form of flattery,” this shows Mengarelli’s lack of integrity, as well as a lack of vision.
If the man doesn’t even have a vision for his own campaign, how in the world could he have a vision for Prescott?
